Aave Labs has launched the Horizon initiative to develop products targeting institutional investors, aiming to bridge decentralized finance (DeFi) and traditional financial systems.

Horizon’s emphasis on RWAs marks a strategic shift from Aave’s earlier institutional offering, Aave Arc, which debuted last year with a broader compliance-focused approach.

Potential products under Horizon include lending and borrowing platforms for tokenized RWAs, decentralized trading venues, and blockchain-based investment funds. These tools could allow institutions to engage in DeFi activities like earning interest on assets or borrowing against them, mirroring Aave’s existing protocols while catering to institutional requirements.

However, challenges remain, including regulatory uncertainties, jurisdictional legal complexities, and institutional risk aversion. Security concerns and the technical demands of integrating compliance features into decentralized systems may also pose hurdles.
