Peter Rabbit 50p coin: The Beatrix Potter piece being sold on eBay for £2,000 - 200 times the Royal Mint's valuation

Peter Rabbit 50p coin: The Beatrix Potter piece being sold on eBay for £2,000 - 200 times the Royal Mint's valuation

The Peter Rabbit 50p coin was released in 2016 as part of a series of commemorative Beatrix Potter 50p coins issued by The Royal Mint.

The coin was struck by The Royal Mint as a commemorative piece and was not originally intended to be put into circulation.

This meant that the coin could only be purchased from the Royal Mint website for a price of £10.

However, a group of coin enthusiasts, known as The Great British Coin Hunt, spent 400 of the coins in shops across the country.

The entire series, designed by Emma Noble, is highly sought-after by collectors.

One seller from Somerset has listed the coin on the eBay online marketplace for £2,000 - despite the Royal Mint valuing the coin at around £10.

The coin is being sold for 200 times the Royal Mint's valuation.

Due to the popularity of the coins, The Royal Mint has created different collections of the coin over the years.

The rarest Peter Rabbit 50p coin is from 2018, with only 1,400,000 minted.

There are a number of Peter Rabbit 50p coins being sold on eBay - with commemorative coins in boxes selling for up to around 30 pounds.

Some circulated coins are selling for just a few pounds, depending on the condition of the coin.

The Somerset seller's eBay listing can be found here.

If you find yourself in possession of a rare coin, you may want to follow suit and sell it.

However, selling a coin on eBay is never guaranteed and a coin is only ever worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

This means that you could potentially make a lot of money from a coin, but it is not guaranteed.

If you are a collector, then you should also be aware that fake coins can appear online, so always be wary before handing over any money.
