Le compte X de l'ancien PM malaisien Mahathir Mohamad a piraté pour promouvoir la crypto-monnaie

Il s'avère que le 5 février, le compte X (anciennement Twitter) de Mahathir a apparemment été piraté. Tout comme le style de nos jours, a déclaré le compte de médias sociaux piraté au travail pour promouvoir une crypto-monnaie.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has denied involvement in promoting a cryptocurrency after his X (formerly Twitter) account was apparently hacked on Feb. 5.

The hacked account posted a tweet promoting a Solana token called “$Malaysia”, falsely claiming that it was the country’s official cryptocurrency and a “significant milestone” in showcasing Malaysia’s strength.

However, Malaysia does not have an official cryptocurrency.

The tweet, which included a link to where the coin could be purchased, was accompanied by an image of the Malaysian flag.

An aide to Mahathir confirmed to Free Malaysia Today and MalaysiaKini that the former prime minister’s X account had been “hacked” and that his team was working on recovering the account.

The hacked post was published at 8:15 pm on Feb. 5 and had been taken down by the time FMT published their article, over an hour later at 9:37 pm.

Some X users speculated that the coin was part of a “pump and dump” scheme, and the coin enjoyed a spike in value that made it look like the Merdeka 118, Malaysia’s tallest building.

Mahathir later posted at 9:57 pm, confirming that his X account had been hacked.

This is not the first time that an official Malaysian account has been hacked to promote cryptocurrency.

The Rakyat Post reported in September 2024 that several X accounts had been hacked, including those of official Malaysian government bodies, such as the Employees Provident Fund and the Election Commission.
