Physical Bitcoin ETP, WBIT, Expands Bitcoin Holdings to $579 Million

Arkham Intel, a blockchain data analytics firm, has revealed the expansion of Bitcoin holdings associated with WisdomTree's physical Bitcoin exchange-traded product (ETP), WBIT. According to Arkham's report published via social media on Friday, WBIT now holds approximately 8,900 Bitcoins (BTC), valued at approximately $579 million, distributed across 134 wallets.

WBIT, managed by WisdomTree, is an exchange-traded fund that provides investors with direct exposure to the price of Bitcoin through physical ownership. As described on WBIT's official website, it offers a simple, secure, and cost-efficient way to invest in Bitcoin, with the added benefits of transparency, tradability, and institutional custody solutions.

This physically-backed ETP differs from a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), which typically utilizes derivatives to track the price of Bitcoin without investors directly holding the underlying asset. In contrast, WBIT, similar to a spot Bitcoin ETF, provides investors with a portion of the Bitcoin held in cold storage by the fund.

WisdomTree, an established asset manager, also offers a spot Bitcoin ETF, WBTC, which received regulatory approval in January 2024. WBTC has demonstrated robust trading activity, with $31.6 million in U.S. dollar volume on April 24 and $10.6 million on April 25, as per The Block's Data Dashboard.

WisdomTree's expansion of its physical Bitcoin holdings through WBIT demonstrates the growing institutional interest in the cryptocurrency. As more investors seek alternative investment options, physically-backed ETPs provide a regulated and accessible route to gain exposure to Bitcoin's potential upside.
