Veteran Analyst Backs Bitcoin as 2025's Top-Performing Asset

Fundstrat's Tom Lee is doubling down on his bullish stance for Bitcoin, predicting that the world's largest cryptocurrency will outpace gold and emerge as the best-performing asset of 2025.

Veteran Analyst Backs Bitcoin as 2025's Top-Performing Asset

Fundstrat's Tom Lee is standing firm on his bullish outlook for Bitcoin, predicting that the world's largest cryptocurrency will outpace gold and emerge as the best-performing asset of 2025.

Speaking on the recent episode of the "Invest Like A Girl" podcast, Lee was discussing his thoughts on the best investment ideas for the year, and he noted that his favorite pick is still Bitcoin.

"Bitcoin is still our favorite idea for this year. So we think that it will be the best-performing asset class (even better than gold), " the analyst stated.

His comments come as Bitcoin recently surged to $85,000, but it's still more than 20% below its previous all-time high. Meanwhile, gold hit a new lifetime high earlier today, outpacing Bitcoin in the first quarter. The contrasting trajectories of these two store-of-value assets have sparked discussion among investors.

A Bitcoin Bull Since the Early Days

Tom Lee has been a strong advocate for Bitcoin since 2018, becoming known for his bold price predictions. While his forecasts have had mixed results, Lee's insights continue to influence market sentiment, making him a notable figure in the investment space.

Lee's fascination with Bitcoin began during his tenure at JPMorgan, where he was involved in discussions about the emerging asset. At the time, Bitcoin's total market value was a mere $20 billion—a fraction of today's valuation. However, it wasn't until 2017, when Bitcoin experienced a tenfold surge in price, that Lee started taking a closer interest in the cryptocurrency.

That same year, Fundstrat published its first Bitcoin research report when BTC was trading at just $1,000.

Bitcoin vs. Gold: The 2025 Showdown

Bitcoin has often been described as "digital gold," with supporters highlighting its advantages as a store of value. However, gold has traditionally been a more stable hedge against inflation, and its recent surge to all-time highs has put Bitcoin's status as a superior store of value in 2024 to the test.

Despite this, Lee believes that Bitcoin's unique properties will ultimately lead it to outperform gold in 2025. His optimism aligns with the growing interest from institutions, the increasing adoption of Bitcoin ETFs, and a broader shift in investor sentiment toward digital assets.

With Bitcoin already rebounding from recent lows and speculation building around the upcoming market cycle, attention is turning to whether Lee's forecast will come to fruition. Will Bitcoin surpass gold in terms of returns this year, or will traditional safe-haven assets continue to take the lead as the best performers in 2024? As the market trends continue to unfold, the competition between these two assets remains one of the most engaging narratives in the financial sphere.
