Decentralized internet project SpaceCoin has launched its first satellite.
SpaceCoin announced on the 23rd that its low Earth orbit satellite ‘CTC-0’ was launched at 8:34 PM on the 21st. CTC-0, SpaceCoin’s first satellite, was launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, via SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
CTC-0 is a satellite for building a blockchain-based 5G internet. By utilizing low Earth orbit satellites like CTC-0, internet services can be provided without the need for expensive infrastructure on the ground. According to SpaceCoin, this allows internet services to be offered in underserved areas for a cost of 1 to 2 dollars per month.
SpaceCoin plans to launch additional satellites next year. The recently launched CTC-0 will undergo testing with future satellites before commencing commercial services. SpaceCoin envisions collaborating with governments and companies in emerging countries like India and Nigeria to provide services to approximately 800 million people.
Meanwhile, SpaceCoin is the world’s first DePIN project aimed at building a decentralized internet. Its goal is to provide high-speed internet directly to mobile devices like smartphones using low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and 5G non-terrestrial network (5G NTN) technology.
Stuart Gardner, CEO of SpaceCoin, stated, “The successful launch of CTC-0 is an important first step in realizing our vision of building a decentralized and free internet,” adding, “We will continue to make our larger goal of creating an internet that everyone owns, controls, and trusts a reality.”
