Sony's Blockchain Project Soneium Launches Its First Music NFT Collection

Sony’s blockchain project Soneium announced on Friday the launch of its first music NFT collection, in collaboration with Coop Records. The collection features three unreleased tracks by Japanese music producer NUU$HI, now available on Soneium’s marketplace Sonova.

The NFT music collection features a 22-minute-long track valued at just 0.000777 Ether (around $2.12).

Coop Records is a community-driven onchain label that has brought over 600 songs to blockchain and brought over 125 artists onchain in the last year, including major acts like Zeds Dead, San Holo, and Barry Can’t Swim.

“Crypto is finally entering the era where apps are the main focus, and with tokens at the center — creators and power users will be the biggest winners.”

The crypto community welcomed this idea on X, calling 2025 an “app season.”

This vision of equitable revenue sharing aligns closely with Soneium’s core mission, as the blockchain network aims to offer recognition and fair compensation to creators for their contributions.

Sony’s Music NFT Endeavors

Built on Ethereum Layer 2, Soneium has seen rapid growth since its mainnet launch in January 2025, with over 248,000 accounts and 1.8 million addresses participating in its blockchain activities in the past four weeks.

While Sony Music Group, which oversees legendary labels such as Columbia Records and RCA Records, has yet to integrate fully with Soneium, the blockchain platform’s roadmap already includes other developments, such as intellectual property protection for creator-generated content and enhanced revenue-sharing models between artists and fans.

Last month, Sony Block Solutions Labs announced a Fan marketing platform that simplifies NFT issuance for brands, creators, and enterprises by offering integrated tools for fan engagement and data analysis.

The latest partnership between Soneium and Coop Records showcases the potential of blockchain in redefining music ownership. Soneium’s director Sota Watanabe stated that Soneium is now shifting its focus to music and entertainment, and this marks the first in a wider collection of drops on Sonova over the coming months.
