Solana-based gaming-focused layer-2 blockchain Sonic will airdrop its SONIC token to all its users onboarded through social-media platform TikTok.
Sonic, a layer-2 blockchain designed for gaming on Solana, will airdrop its SONIC token to users who onboarded through TikTok.
Sonic integrated its SonicX game directly into TikTok in an effort to replicate the success of mini apps built on the TON blockchain within the Telegram messaging platform.
The game has over 2 million users onboarded through TikTok, which Sonic attributed to the app's seamless experience and reach in an emailed announcement that didn't give further details of the token release.
By working through Web2 apps like Telegram or TikTok, developers can leverage existing onboarding flows and user experience to make blockchain-based games more accessible. TikTok has 1 billion monthly active users, a number that is expected to grow to over 2.3 billion by 2029, according to Shopify.
