The 2025 Sovereign Collection, which will be available for purchase this November, represents the final opportunity for collectors
The Royal Mint has announced several firsts and lasts for the sovereign gold coin in its 2025 collection, which will be available for purchase in November.
The 2025 collection will mark the final opportunity for collectors and investors to acquire a sovereign made from rose gold. Starting in 2026, all sovereigns struck by the Royal Mint will return to their historical roots, crafted from yellow gold, a shift back to the coin’s 500-year-old tradition.
The 2025 collection will feature two classic sovereign designs: Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous St. George and the Dragon, and Jean Baptiste Merlen’s Royal Arms, celebrating the 200th anniversary of its first appearance in 1825. In an exciting first, the mint will introduce a silver sovereign to the 2025 collection. It will match the diameter and weight of its gold counterpart and will be produced from .999 Fine silver. The silver edition will feature Pistrucci’s St. George and the Dragon design, with one version also including a special privy mark to honour the 200th anniversary of the 1825 Royal Arms sovereign.
The 2025 collection will also include full, double, half and quarter editions of the bullion sovereign. Struck in 22-karat gold, with its weight guaranteed to five decimal places, the 2025 bullion sovereign retains its status as one of the most precisely specified coins in the world.
