The Royal Canadian Mint Unveils New February Coin Releases Celebrating Black History, Canadian Symbols, and Wildlife Art

The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) has unveiled its lineup of February coin releases, showcasing diverse themes from Black history and iconic Canadian symbols to celebrated wildlife art.

A tribute to Vancouver's first Black community, the Hogan's Alley coin is struck in one ounce of 99.99 per cent pure silver. This numismatic release shines a light on the once-thriving cultural hub that existed for over 50 years before its demolition in the 1960s. Hogan's Alley was known for its strong community spirit, entrepreneurialism, and civil activism. With a limited mintage of 5,000 pieces, the coin is available for $119.95.

The Elegant Maple fine silver coin pays homage to one of Canada's most recognizable natural emblems — the sugar maple. Featuring a black rhodium-plated field that enhances the brilliance of the leaf's intricate details, this one-ounce coin is a study in contrast and beauty. Priced at $129.95, it has a mintage of 7,000 pieces.

Renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman's work has once again been brought to life in numismatic form. His latest piece, Mustang Country, captures the untamed beauty of mustang herds roaming the prairies. The two-ounce fine silver coin, priced at $249.95, is limited to 4,000 pieces. A rare one-kilogram pure gold coin, with a mintage of only 75, was also offered at $149,000, but has already sold out.

Blending traditional and modern minting techniques, the Maple Leaves in Motion coin offers a captivating visual experience. This five-ounce fine silver coin features both yellow gold plating and multifaceted engraving, highlighting the beauty of Canada's national symbol. With only 2,000 pieces available, it is priced at $699.95.

Returning due to popular demand, the Predator or Prey in Shadow Box fine silver coin pushes the boundaries of minting technology. Using multiple layers—both engraved and cut-out—it creates a dramatic three-dimensional effect that changes with the viewing angle. Limited to just 750 coins, this intricately designed piece is available for $2,799.95.
