Rare Jeremy Fisher 50p coin being sold on eBay for 20,000 times its original face value

A 50p coin featuring Mr Jeremy Fisher is being sold on eBay for 20,000 times its original face value.

The coin was released in 2017 to mark the 110th anniversary of the beloved Beatrix Potter character's debut in The Tale of Mr Jeremy Fisher.

Now, two of the coins are up for grabs on the online marketplace, with each being sold individually for £6,999 - or £6,649 each if bought as a pair.

The item is being described as a "very rare Beatrix Potter 50p Mr Jeremy Fisher Coin."

The listing explains that the coin is part of the Decimal Coinage category and is included in the British Coins and UK Coins collection.

It also notes that Mr Jeremy Fisher was featured in a series of letters penned by Potter to young fans, and that the character has gone on to be immortalised in artwork and porcelain figures.

The coin originally had a face value of just 50p, but due to its rarity, it has become a highly sought-after collectible.

Just this week, a similar coin fetched a price of £7,999 after being sold from Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Others sold in the past have brought profits of nearly £50,000.

The current listing is asking for £10,000 or the best offer, with one having already been sold previously by the owner.

Buying the item would come with a £8.35 postage, though there is also the option to pick it up in person from its present home in Doncaster.

You can view the full listing here and find out more information about submitting an offer.

Multiple people on the online marketplace are looking to cash in on the popularity of the Mr Jeremy Fisher 50p.
