Rapper Ye Continues to Confuse the Cryptocurrency Community Through His Erratic Social Media Behavior and Mixed Signals About His Meme Coin Project

Rapper Ye, legally known as Kanye West, has sent mixed signals about his upcoming cryptocurrency launch, leaving the crypto community guessing his next move.

What Happened: In an X post on Sunday, amid growing speculation about his official cryptocurrency launch, the controversial hip-hop artist wrote, "I need my own blockchain."

I need my own blockchain

Ye also went on to repost several of Changpeng Zhao's posts during the weekend, suggesting that the new meme coin could be based on the BNB Chain (BNB).

That one retweet got him to 33.2m followers? wow. 🤔 https://t.co/IXz4eweQcc

However, in an inexplicable move, Ye unfollowed Zhao and started following Olaf Carlson-Wee, founder of cryptocurrency investment firm Polychain.

Moreover, all his previous posts, teasing the upcoming launch, were deleted as of this writing.

Ye didn't immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Ye would be launching a cryptocurrency called YZY, which would serve as the official currency of his Yeezy brand.

If the music artist does follow through with this plan, it would mark a departure from his recent stance, where he scrapped plans to launch his meme coin and took a jab at celebrity-backed tokens.

Ye's controversial opinions have had an impact on his businesses. Recently, Shopify (NYSE:SHOP) removed his online store after he listed products featuring offensive symbols.

Meme coins, launched by influential people, have been a hot topic in recent times, with President Donald Trump's launch of Official Trump (TRUMP) being one of the high-profile examples. The tokenomics and the wild fluctuations of these coins have attracted criticism.
