In a move toward digital innovation, Panama City will now accept cryptocurrency payments for taxes, permits, tickets, and fees.

Beginning this year, the city government will accept major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH), USDC, and USDT.

The development was announced by Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi on X, highlighting Latin America’s growing trend of integrating cryptocurrencies.

Earlier this year, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele revealed plans for a Bitcoin futures trading platform to be launched in the country.

However, in Panama, Mizrachi encountered a setback when an attempt to pass a bill in the senate to enable crypto payments was met with difficulties.

Instead, his team found a simpler way to introduce cryptocurrency payments without the need for new national laws.

The city will partner with banks that are capable of converting crypto to fiat, ensuring ease of use for both government agencies and residents.
