San Antonio Spurs Win Coin Toss to Secure Best Odds at the 14th Pick in the 2025 NBA Draft

Much like they did in the 2023 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs found themselves in a coin flip that would determine their Draft Lottery odds.

San Antonio Spurs Win Coin Toss to Secure Best Odds at the 14th Pick in the 2025 NBA Draft

The San Antonio Spurs found themselves in a coin flip that would determine their Draft Lottery odds.

The Spurs own the Atlanta Hawks’ 2025 first-round pick. The Hawks own the Sacramento Kings’ first-round pick (protected 1-12). The Hawks and Kings were tied for the 13th-best odds at the number one pick in the draft. A coin toss would decide who would pick 13th, and who would make the last lottery selection.

On Monday, the Kings won the coin toss, which really means the Hawks won the coin toss, even though technically they lost the coin toss, but the Spurs actually own their pick. Confused? Take it up with the teams trading first-round picks will nilly. All convolution aside, the Spurs now hold the best odds at the 14th pick in the 2025 Draft. Atlanta will more than likely select 13th overall, unless they move up in the lottery, in which Sacramento would get to keep the pick.

After losing the coin toss, the Spurs now hold the best odds at selecting 8th and 14th overall in the upcoming draft. San Antonio has a 26.3% chance of moving into the top four from the eighth spot, and a 6% chance of getting the number one pick. They have a small 3.4% chance of moving from 14 to the top four, and a 0.7% chance of going from 14 to 1.

The last time the Spurs lost a lottery coin toss, they wound up with the number one pick, in which they selected Victor Wembanyama. We’ll see if history repeats itself on May 12th for the NBA Draft Lottery.
