Naraly Asanbaev left the post of Editor-in-Chief of Erkin-Too newspaper. Confirming the information to 24.kg news agency, he noted that he resigned of his own accord.
Naraly Asanbaev has stepped down as the Editor-in-Chief of Erkin-Too newspaper, a government publication in Kyrgyzstan. Asanbaev confirmed his resignation to 24.kg news agency, stating that he left the post voluntarily.
However, Asanbaev emphasized that his decision is not related to the ongoing investigation into MCN Coin. During the probe, journalists highlighted individuals who promoted MCN Coin, including Erkin-Too newspaper, which published three interviews about the company.
In early February, the State Committee for National Security detained Isradin Subanbekov, one of the founders of the virtual asset MCN Coin. Subsequently, a video emerged showing Subanbekov confessing to fraud. He claimed that the company collected $2.5 million from citizens over 18 months. Later, Daniyar Zakirov, an employee of the 4th Department of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced on Birinchi Radio that $1,700 million had been returned to those affected by the actions of MCN Coin founders.
On February 10, State Committee for National Security officers detained the former chairman of the State Service for Regulation and Supervision over the Financial Market, Yuruslan Toichubekov, in connection with the MCN Coin case. He is accused of establishing a pyramid scheme.
The Editor-in-Chief of Erkin-Too is appointed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. Asanbaev was appointed to the role in October 2022. The Cabinet has yet to announce the appointment of a new editor-in-chief for the newspaper.
