Melania Trump caught some flak after she promted her own meme coin on X, formerly Twitter. Melania announced the launch of her new meme coin shortly after Trump's new cryptocurrency was revealed.

Melania Trump Caught Promoting Her Own Meme Coin, Dubbed 'Melania Memes,' Hours Before Donald Trump's Inauguration

Melania Trump has announced the launch of her own meme coin shortly after Donald Trump's new cryptocurrency was revealed.

“The Official Melania Meme is now live! You can buy $MELANIA now,” the soon-to-be First Lady posted on Truth Social on Sunday.

On the website, her coin “Melania Memes” is described as a “fungible crypto assets created and tracked on the Solana blockchain,” according to The Hill.

The new “Melania Meme” coin comes as President-elect Trump has shown his recent support for crypto and its digital community by getting a coin of his own.

“My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE! It’s time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING! Join my very special Trump Community. GET YOUR $TRUMP NOW,” the president-elect posted on Truth Social on Friday.

Meme coins, which are a funny and unpredictable part of the cryptocurrency world, usually start as a joke with no value and can see a price explosion if enough people join in.

Dogecoin, which is known for its dog mascot and phrases like "much wow," is an example of these currencies.

The sale of the Donald Trump meme coin is being handled by CIC Digital, which is part of the Trump Organization. According to the coin's website, there are 200 million Trump meme coins out now, and they plan to make a billion more in the next three years.

CIC Digital and another company own 80% of the Trump meme coins and will get a share of the “trading revenue derived from trading activities,” the token's website says.

Critics slammed the Trumps for joining the crypto trend and showed their disapproval on Truth Social.

“This is what you do hours before the inauguration.? You’re a shameless grifter just like your husband,” one Truth Social user wrote. A second joked, “Your husband's coin lost 1/3 of its m cap immediately after your initial post lol.”

In the past, Trump has called crypto a “scam.” But he changed his mind when he was running for president again in 2024 and started supporting crypto, becoming the first presidential candidate to take digital currency.

Donors could give to his campaign through “its joint fundraising committees with any cryptocurrency accepted through the Coinbase Commerce product,” according to The Hill.

On Friday, Trump associate David Sacks will be hosting the Crypto Ball in Washington, D.C. The crypto industry gave a lot of money to Trump in the last election and is now making a wish list for his next term.

On Monday, Trump and his supporters will gather at the Capital One Arena in D.C. for his inauguration ceremony, which will be held in a smaller space inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda due to weather conditions, according to ABC News.

"I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather," Trump posted on his social media site Truth Social on Friday.
