YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Lomond School in Helensburgh, Scotland, will accept Bitcoin tuition payments starting in Autumn 2025. It will be the first school in the UK education sector to do so.

Helensburgh's Lomond School will accept Bitcoin tuition payments starting this Autumn 2025, becoming the first school in the UK to do so.
The school, which is a private independent school, specified it will not accept any other cryptocurrencies. Any Bitcoin received for tuition will be converted into fiat currency right after the reception. It may later create a BTC treasury, depending on feedback from its community.
This move supports the school’s plan to introduce sound money principles from the Austrian School of Economics. The announcement highlighted that Bitcoin is available to anyone willing to learn and can be a useful tool in developing nations without access to banks.
"We are also mindful of the need to prepare young people for an increasingly complex and interconnected world. As part of our new curriculum, we will be teaching students about Bitcoin in lessons related to economics, computing, and ethics," stated the school.
The school pointed out that it will not be holding onto the cryptocurrency long term for now but may consider a BTC treasury later. That decision will depend on discussions with parents, staff, and trustees. It also did not state whether it would use BTC for any operational purposes beyond the endowment.
The school did not share plans for further Bitcoin investments. It added that it would process all transactions through a secure channel and convert BTC to pounds immediately. It did not confirm the provider for processing the Bitcoin tuition payments.
