Going back to last season once Joe Brady took over the offensive play calling duties, Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir has become very reliable for this offense.
The Buffalo Bills had the ball to start the game after the Baltimore Ravens won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.
The story is a lot different than it was last week for the Bills. Rather than coming out of the gate and driving the ball down the field, the Bills were stopped and had to punt it away to the Ravens.
The Buffalo offense managed to get it to midfield, but a Dalton Kincaid drop on third down caused the Bills to give the ball away. Even though this wasn’t the ideal start for the Bills, history was made on their side of the ball.
Going back to last season once Joe Brady took over the offensive play calling duties, Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir has become very reliable for this offense. His play style looks a lot like former Bills wideout Cole Beasley when he was with the Bills back in 2019.
Shakir was targeted just once but didn’t get any yardage on his reception. However, he still managed to make history with that catch. It was his 28th catch in a row and he passed Michael Thomas (who had 27 consecutive catches in 2018) for the most targets caught by a receiver.
After catching his first target tonight and 28th in a row, Khalil Shakir has surpassed Michael Thomas (27 in 2018) for the most consecutive targets caught by an NFL WR since at least 1991.
Shakir is not well-known outside of Western New York, but his impact has been sensational for the Bills. He serves as a security blanket for Allen and can break away from defenders when he gets in the open field. He has become “Mr. Reliable” for this passing attack and will look to continue being just that.
Despite the Bills playing with an “everybody eats” mentality, Shakir has become one of the go-to targets in this offense. It will be interesting to see how much more Shakir can grow within his game for Buffalo.
