The social media platform Hey has made a significant move towards empowering content creators by integrating three creator license codes on its platform Lens, which is built on the web3 paradigm. These licenses provide users with granular control over their digital creations, including commercial and personal use rights as well as no-rights-reserved (CC0) options.

The commercial use license enables creators to monetize their content through advertising or other revenue streams. The personal use license restricts usage to non-commercial purposes, such as sharing content with friends and family. The CC0 license, on the other hand, offers the most open permissions, allowing users to freely share and adapt the content without any restrictions on usage or attribution.

Lens, a project from Avara (formerly known as Aave Companies), launched its V2 on the Polygon blockchain network in November 2023. The update introduced on-chain metadata licensing, enabling users to specify usage terms and conditions for their content across the Lens ecosystem. This allows creators to retain ownership and control over their digital assets, ensuring their rights are respected and protected.

Lens operates as a decentralized "social graph," providing users with a permissionless platform where they can connect with others and own their social data. This data can be easily transferred and integrated with external applications, allowing creators to seamlessly move their content, followers, and other social assets across different platforms.
