Heart Sparkle Mermaid: How a memecoin created by a 7-year-old Livingston Parish girl took off in popularity

A seven-year-old girl from Livingston Parish created a memecoin during the recent snow event in Louisiana, and it took off in popularity in just hours, now that little girl’s dream of having her own coin that incorporates some of her favorite things: hearts, sparkles and mermaids, has become something more to the dad and daughter.

According to CoinBase, a “memecoin” is a type of cryptocurrency that is often inspired by internet trends, characters or memes. They tend to have a community following, as well.

Rowyn, who is seven-years-old, liked to watch her dad and uncle “play Crypto” as she calls it. She especially found the names of the coins funny and became interested in what they were.

Logan Guillory said his daughter then asked him if she could create a coin. He told her she could and some time passed before the topic came up again.

While stuck inside during the snow, Guillory asked his daughter if she was still interested in creating a coin.

“She got all excited, lit up and said, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.’ So I said, ‘OK, well, draw a picture and come up with a name for it, and that will be your coin.”

He said that Rowyn’s birthday was the following day, Wednesday, and thought that making a coin would just be a fun activity to do together while they were inside with the weather. She came back within minutes with a drawing for the coin.

Guillory said he and Rowyn streamed on Twitch to show people her new coin, which was named “Heart Sparkle Mermaid,” and chat with their community. Guillory put between $60-70 of Solana (a form of blockchain for cryptocurrency) into Rowyn’s coin to get it started.

Thousands of coins are made daily on the website, Guillory said, so the chances of coins progressing well are slim. After streaming and watching the coin get more and more sales, the duo went out to play in the snow for a while.

Once they came back inside, Guillory said to their surprise, the coin kept going up.

“It just kept going up. It just didn’t stop,” he said.

Because streaming cryptocurrency is not allowed on Twitch, their account was shut down, but the community, who had watched Rowyn earlier in the day, found them through other social media accounts and kept asking Rowyn to go live on X (Twitter).

When they decided to go live, the stream at its peak reached over 60,000 viewers.

“This space doesn’t have to be about money; it doesn’t have to be about winners or losers,” Guillory said. “It was meant to be about community and having fun.”

Because of starting a memecoin, Guillory said they have been able to build a “brand” for Rowyn with ‘Heart Sparkle Mermaid’ including LLCs. A storybook is already in the works about the character.

“She gets to write the story, pick the art and help in the design process. And I think that’s a beautiful thing,” Guillory said.

The book will be available for purchase via Amazon in February. First quarter sales will go back into the coin, he added.

The only money the family pulled from the coin was to buy a computer for Rowyn. She wanted one for Christmas, and at the time, her dad said they weren’t able to get her one. During one of the livestreams, a viewer gave over $1,500 to go into a digital wallet for Rowyn.

“The next day, I took her and her sister to Walmart, and she got to get her laptop, like a really nice gaming laptop to play Minecraft and make videos. And then she bought her sister a tablet,” Guillory said.

The dad said this opportunity has been about supporting your children with their dreams. It’s become less about the coin with Rowyn and more about creating her ideas for a story with her parents’ encouragement.

“If they want to do something, just let them give it all they have and then good things come from that,” he said. “It doesn’t have to always work out the first time, but if it just works once for them, that’s all it takes.”

Even if the business venture doesn’t go any further than the storybook, Guillory said he’s excited for his daughter to have that success and to see her excitement in the process.

“I’m over the moon about that, because she will have her own published property with her name on it at seven-years-old – and all that was from a memecoin.”
