Expanding XRPL's Capabilities with Cross-Chain Solutions

Flare Networks, which integrated XRP into its testnet last year, is now expanding staking opportunities for XRP holders.
Flare Networks, which integrated XRP into its testnet last year, is expanding staking opportunities for token holders.
How Flare Is Expanding Staking Orgs for XRP
As reported by Times Tabloid, an initiative that offers a low-risk way to earn rewards while securing blockchain networks.
This will offer a way for individuals to support multiple ecosystems and receive tokens in return.
"We are building XRP staking on Flare. When you stake your XRP on Flare, you will be securing networks and /^x89
"Staking is very low risk as validators rarely encounter significant issues. A simple and safe way to earn passive income and gain exposure to assets beyond the XRP Ledger," Philion explained.
After the announcement, community member Zach Rector questioned the relevance of Flare’s staking features given that XRPL is set to introduce programmability.
Highlighting the Differences Between Flare and XRPL
In response, Philion clarified that XRPL’s new capabilities would be limited in scope compared to Flare’s more comprehensive infrastructure.
He explained that Flare’s ecosystem offers full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, decentralized data access, protocol-managed wallets, and off-chain computing. These features enable greater flexibility and a wider range of use cases that XRPL’s programmability does not currently support.
Moreover, Flare’s platform is designed to work with multiple blockchain networks, allowing it to support assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), and Wrapped Ether (wETH).
Philion emphasized that this cross-chain functionality complements XRPL rather than competing with it.
“We like to say that if you prefer to use another chain, we will build a bridge. If you prefer another data source, we will build an oracle. And if you prefer another application to be running, we will deploy it via a smart contract.”
Expanding XRPL’s Capabilities
Beyond staking, Flare aims to enhance XRPL’s functionality through decentralized bridging and oracle services.
Currently, transferring assets between XRPL and other networks requires users to trust centralized issuers. However, Flare’s protocol-managed wallets will enable seamless, trustless transfers, removing this limitation.
Furthermore, Flare will introduce oracle services that provide real-world data to the blockchain, a feature not yet available on XRPL.
Finally, smart contracts and off-chain computing will give token holders access to more advanced financial tools, such as DeFi protocols and decentralized exchanges, expanding the capabilities of the XRP Ledger.
