East West University (EWU) Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) has felicitated its alumnus, Rifat Nabi, co-founder of popular Bengali typing software Avro, on receiving the prestigious Ekushey Padak, reports UNB.
The event was held on Thursday at the university's Manzur Elahi Auditorium and was attended by Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor of EWU and former governor of Bangladesh Bank as the chief guest.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU. At the event, Rifat Nabi was honoured with a laptop computer as a token of appreciation.
Speaking at the event and reminiscing about his journey, Rifat Nabi shared that his passion for programming blossomed after joining EWU, which ultimately led him to join the Avro team. He highlighted the importance of acquiring knowledge and skills in one's field of interest that can prove valuable in the future.
Dr Farashuddin expressed his pride in Rifat's achievement, saying that it brought honour to EWU. He also lauded the ethical decision of Avro team leader Mehdi Hasan to accept the Ekushey Padak collectively with the team, underscoring the significance of integrity.
Other speakers at the event included Dr Mahin Islam, chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Dr. Anisur Rahman, Proctor of EWU. The programme was attended by the guardians and relatives of Rifat Nabi, the Treasurer, faculty members, alumni members, officers, and students of EWU.
