Polls begin to close in US elections, as Trump and Harris vie for presidency
Donald Trump has won his home state of Florida in the 2024 US presidential election, as the former president and Kamala Harris continue to win in their strongholds.
Trump reached 100 electoral votes at around 8.30pm EST as vote counting ramped up in key battleground states.
But voting was too close to call in battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina after polls closed.
While the first polls have been announced bomb hoaxes and a technical glitch in ballot printers have slowed voting in other areas.
Millions of Americans are deciding whether Trump or Ms Harris should become President, with the state of Democracy and the economy at the top of voters’ concerns - according to the first wave of exit polls.
Pollster Nate Silver described how the US Presidential Election is “literally closer than a coin flip”. He explained on Tuesday the odds in the presidential race are “about as close as you can possibly get to 50/50”.
Earlier on Tuesday, Ms Harris spoke to voters on the phone while Trump voted in Palm Beach, Florida, alongside his wife Melania.
Trump is understood to be hosting a watch party event as results come in and Elon Musk is expected to spend the night alongside the convicted felon.
