Donald Trump's Proposal to Add XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA) to the U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve Is Now Uncertain.
Mar 06, 2025 at 03:07 pm
Dan Romero (Farcaster co-founder) suggests the U.S. will only use seized assets for its crypto reserves, not buy from the market.
Donald Trump's proposal to add XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA) to the U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve is now in doubt.
Dan Romero (Farcaster co-founder) suggests the U.S. will only use seized assets for its crypto reserves, not buy from the market. This poses an obstacle for including altcoins like XRP, SOL, and ADA.
Romero's statements follow Trump's mention of adding XRP, Solana, and Cardano to the U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve. After the announcement, XRP, SOL, and ADA experienced rallies. However, with Romero's insights and the lack of congressional approval for purchasing altcoins, these gains have since been wiped out, also dragging BTC and ETH down.
Samson Mow, the Jan3 CEO, also weighed in, criticizing the idea of adding altcoins, which he deems too risky for a strategic reserve. He recommends Proof-of-Work (PoW) assets like BTC, Litecoin (LTC), and Monero (XMR) for their stability.
The discussion on the U.S. crypto reserve has centered around including BTC and possibly other assets. However, there are doubts about including altcoins like XRP, SOL, and ADA.
Gold has served as a stable reserve asset for centuries, and Bitcoin, often called "digital gold," is a better fit for reserves than volatile altcoins.
The U.S. already owns approximately 200,000 BTC from Department of Justice seizures. BTC's current value of around $16.5 billion constitutes only 3.5% of U.S. gold reserves. If the reserves are limited to seized assets, buying XRP or ADA seems unlikely.
The White House Crypto Summit on March 7 may provide more clarity on the U.S. government's approach to crypto. If Congress blocks purchasing altcoins, XRP and ADA could struggle to recover.
The U.S. government's approach to its crypto reserve strategy highlights a fundamental speculation vs. stability debate. Bitcoin's dominance in the discussion is logical—it's the most established cryptocurrency, widely recognized as a store of value similar to gold.
Altcoins like $XRP & #ADA face major hurdles:
Centralization concerns (e.g., Ripple’s control over XRP) could prevent government adoption.
Regulatory uncertainty makes it unlikely that Congress would approve buying altcoins outright.
If only seized assets are included, the government’s crypto reserve will likely remain BTC-heavy, with minimal exposure to altcoins.
If Trump’s plan to include XRP and ADA in the U.S. crypto reserve is progressing, it may face regulatory and political roadblocks, rendering their inclusion highly improbable. The March 7 Crypto Summit will be crucial in shaping the final decision.
The U.S. crypto reserve is likely to prioritize Bitcoin over altcoins, ensuring stability over speculation.
