Will There Be a Dogecoin ETF?

Dec 23, 2024 at 11:07 pm

The crypto world moves fast, but for some reason, Dogecoin (DOGE) is still on the sidelines of one of its most profitable advancements — exchange-traded funds.

Will There Be a Dogecoin ETF?

Cryptocurrency moves quickly, yet somehow Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE) still sits on the sidelines of one of the most lucrative advancements — exchange-traded funds.

What Happened: Nate Geraci, president of the ETF Store, is scratching his head wondering why there is no Dogecoin ETF yet. He believes it is not just a missed financial opportunity, but also a marketing miscue for those who are hesitant to embrace the popular meme coin.

“Shocked an ETF issuer hasn't filed for Dogecoin ETF yet… What's the downside?” Geraci said on Twitter. “Worst case, it's a marketing expense. Wonder which issuer is sitting on the ‘DOGE’ ticker.”

A year ago, the first Bitcoin ETF was approved, opening a new chapter for cryptocurrencies and bringing them to mainstream investment portfolios. Ethereum followed suit shortly after, claiming its spot as the next logical addition to the ETF landscape.

Ethereum, being the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, made its entry a no-brainer. But what about Dogecoin? It still sits in limbo, despite the cultural clout and devoted community it boasts.

But the momentum is slowly building. Just last month, Valour listed the first Dogecoin exchange-traded product (ETP) on Sweden's Spotlight exchange.

While an ETP is not quite the same as an ETF, the move signifies how Dogecoin is slowly becoming an investable asset in the mainstream. However, it remains to be seen if this will be enough to entice large-scale investors.

DOGE ETF 2025?

Dogecoin occupies an interesting space within the cryptocurrency realm. It began as a joke but has since undergone substantial growth to emerge as one of the most recognizable cryptocurrencies.

Its brand strength rivals that of many more technical counterparts, yet this visibility has not yet translated into formal investment vehicles such as ETFs.

Could a Dogecoin ETF be on the horizon, perhaps by 2025?

The question is becoming increasingly pertinent as the landscape for crypto ETFs continues to evolve. Geraci and others in the industry are highlighting the curious absence of a DOGE ETF, especially within an industry that prides itself on innovation and being prepared for the market.
