Crypto ETNs to Launch on London Stock Exchange on May 28

When Will Crypto ETNs Debut on the London Stock Exchange?

As of May 28, savvy investors will have the green light to trade Crypto Exchange-Traded Notes (ETNs) on the esteemed London Stock Exchange (LSE).

Who Gets to Play?

ETN issuers have a deadline of April 15 to submit their game plans to secure their spot on the trading floor come May.

Why the Delay?

The LSE isn't rushing into this. They're giving issuers plenty of time to check off all the requirements outlined in their Crypto ETN blueprint. That way, they can ensure that they're up to snuff before the big day.

What Are the Rules?

These Crypto ETNs are strictly reserved for the professional investor crowd. The LSE has designated a special sandbox for them, labeled "Professional investors only."

What's the Deal with ETNs?

Think of Crypto ETNs as debt instruments that mirror the ups and downs of crypto assets. They're a way for investors to get their crypto fix without having to dive into the digital currency deep end.

Why Is This So Exciting?

Across the pond in the U.S., Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have been raking in billions. UK investors are starting to feel the FOMO, and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has given the green light for RIEs like the LSE to list crypto ETNs.

How Do Issuers Get In the Game?

By meeting the April 15 deadline and getting the FCA's blessing by May 22, issuers can join the trading party.

Who's Excited About This?

Industry heavyweights in the UK are giving crypto ETNs a standing ovation. Coinbase's UK boss Daniel Seifert and Kraken's UK honcho Bivu Das are all about giving consumers more ways to get their crypto fix.
