Nashville pop/rock trio Coin has disbanded following allegations against two of the group’s members.
Lead singer and keyboard player Chase Lawrence announced the split in an Instagram post Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The post comes after fans began speculating about the band's future following a cryptic message from Lawrence on social media last week. At the time, Lawrence said he was "processing a lot of emotions" and would be "sharing some thoughts soon."
On Tuesday, Lawrence said that Coin “can no longer continue as a band.”
“I have recently become aware of revelations around my bandmates and want to share some thoughts directly with all of you,” Lawrence wrote.
“Their behaviors directly conflict with my values, and I am devastated for anyone who has been affected by these actions,” the singer continued. “Creating a space for love & joy through music has always been my mission. Discovering that this space has been compromised by the actions of others is truly heartbreaking.”
Lawrence went on to apologize to Coin’s fanbase and said refunds for the band’s upcoming tour would be processed.
“There’s a lot to figure out about the future, but I know I’m not done making music yet,” he wrote. “Thank you for everything.”
Lawrence formed Coin in 2012 along with guitarist Joe Memmel, bassist Zachary Dyke and drummer Ryan Winnen.
After releasing EPs in 2012 and 2013, the band gained mainstream attention with the 2015 single “Run” from Coin’s self-titled debut album.
Coin gained further success in 2016 with the lead single “Talk Too Much” from the band’s second studio album, “How Will You Know If You Never Try.”
The song was Coin’s first to land on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Song’s chart, among other charts. “Talk Too Much” has also been certified gold by the RIAA.
The band most recently released the album “I’m Not Afraid Of Music Anymore” in September 2024.
Earlier this month, Coin announced that they would be going out on tour without Winnen, who was stepping away “to focus on some personal matters.”
