The game is set to launch on the Sui blockchain. It will bring a mix of nostalgia and digital ownership to modern players.

CODE OF JOKER: EVOLUTIONS, a New Game by Jokers, is Coming to Sui

Many gamers feel that the “golden age” of gaming peaked over a decade ago and it still hasn't been matched. With new technologies and gaming paradigms, could this be the time for a fresh start?

According to recent data from Statista, the peak of the "golden age" of gaming, at least in terms of units sold, occurred in 2011. This was the year that video games reached the highest levels of sales in the U.S.

Despite the advancements in gaming technology and the introduction of new gaming platforms, such as cloud gaming and virtual reality, gamers have yet to experience another pinnacle like the one achieved in 2011.

However, with the advent of Web3 and the integration of blockchain technology, a new wave of gaming is emerging, offering a mix of nostalgia and digital ownership to modern players.

As metaverse integration advances and gaming becomes more immersive, it remains to be seen what new heights the industry will reach in the coming years.

It seems that many gamers are turning back to classic titles in search of that same magic.

"With the current market of games, gamers are increasingly returning to nostalgic titles," says Anthony Palma, head of gaming partnerships at Mysten Labs, in an interview with Cointelegraph.

Palma adds that there are more advantages to bringing classic games to Web3 than making new Web3 games from scratch. Since players already know and love these games, there’s less friction in getting them on board.

"If a game, game company, or IP already resonates with players, they’re more open to exploring how digital ownership enhances their experience."

Announcing the integration of Jokers' CODE OF JOKER: EVOLUTIONS, licensed by Sega, on Sui.

Based on the hit arcade game, the latest in the Code of Joker series brings legendary IP, digital card ownership & seamless trading. Get ready to own, trade & showcase.

Coming later this year on iOS, Android & PC.

Those who enjoy card games and classic arcade games might recognize the name Joker. Jokers is a Japanese company best known for its large-scale card games, such as Code of Joker.

The game is set to launch in late summer 2025 on iOS, Android, and PC. Its move to Web3 will see the introduction of digital assets, rendering ownership and in-game transactions more transparent and secure.

It will also be bringing a piece of gaming nostalgia with the Code of Joker: Evolutions game. The game, which is based on the popular arcade game series, is set to launch later this year on iOS, Android, and PC.

This isn’t the only company bringing a piece of the past to the blockchain. Earlier in July, AtariX, the Web3 initiative of Atari, announced a partnership with Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, to bring classic titles to the blockchain.

The partnership will see the launch of a series of classic Atari games on the Base blockchain, kicking off with Asteroids, the legendary arcade game first launched in 1979.

Earlier in 2024, developers at the Bitcoin Ordinals portfolio tracker Ninjalerts also joined the trend. They have successfully programmed a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator onto the Bitcoin blockchain.

This integration allows gamers to play classic SNES games in a fully decentralized manner, showcasing the versatility of the Bitcoin blockchain beyond standard tokens and NFTs.
