Canaan unveils bitcoin mining rigs that also function as home heaters
Blockchain hardware giant Canaan has unveiled two new cutting-edge bitcoin mining devices at CES 2025: the Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon Nano 3S. Designed to merge the worlds of cryptocurrency mining and home heating, these gadgets are sure to appeal to anyone interested in decentralized mining.
The Avalon Mini 3 boasts a hashrate of 37.5 terahashes per second (TH/s) and comes equipped with an app-controlled interface for easy operation. Its dual-functionality allows it to mine bitcoin while simultaneously providing warmth to home environments, presenting a novel solution for energy conservation.
The smaller Avalon Nano 3S, an evolution from its predecessor, delivers a 6 TH/s hashrate in a compact form with minimal power usage, which Canaan says is perfect for those starting their journey into bitcoin mining.
Canaan’s CEO, NG Zhang, spoke about the company’s goal of making cryptocurrency mining accessible and adaptable to modern lifestyles. “The Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon 3S embody our vision of user-friendly, practical mining solutions for the contemporary individual,” said Zhang on Wednesday.
The Mini 3 caters to those who prioritize energy efficiency and heat repurposing, with a design that aligns with the growing interest in sustainable practices. By utilizing the computational heat produced during mining for practical warmth, this device offers an innovative way to reduce environmental waste.
The Nano 3S, on the other hand, is designed to be an entry-level device for those who are curious about bitcoin mining, with a focus on affordability and ease of use. Its portability and low energy requirements make it an accessible option for personal use, which could contribute to the broader decentralization of the Bitcoin network.
Canaan also highlighted its continued advancement in ASIC technology, which has seen its Avalon series of bitcoin miners earn recognition among competitors. The company believes the introduction of these devices furthers this path, emphasizing usability and practicality in more personal settings.
CES 2025 has seen a wide range of tech innovations on display, with Canaan’s dual-purpose devices standing out for their attempt to integrate cryptocurrency mining into everyday life utility. It remains to be seen whether these devices will have a significant impact on individual mining participation or awareness of energy-saving technology.
