Bitcoin Whale Return Coincides with New Satoshi Documentary Trailer

A Bitcoin whale that has been dormant since 2009 has finally awakened and transferred $3.58 million worth of BTC to the Kraken exchange.

According to data provided by Arkham, the whale has been holding BTC since the first month following the opening of the Bitcoin mainnet. Recently, the whale has made several small transfers, sparking rumors about the owner's identity.

The most recent transfer was on October 3, 2024. The wallet currently holds 1,169 BTC, valued at over $72.5 million.

Bitcoin Whale Activity Coincides with New Satoshi Documentary Trailer

As reported earlier, the return of the Bitcoin whale coincides with the release of a trailer for an upcoming HBO documentary. Titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” the film attempts to uncover the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic founder of Bitcoin.

This has led to further speculation connecting the whale to Nakamoto, given the timing of the wallet’s initial activity, just one month after Bitcoin was launched in 2009.

Over the years, the crypto community has extensively debated Nakamoto's identity. The HBO program also suggests that Nakamoto could be Len Sassaman, an American computer scientist and prominent figure in the world of cypherpunks.

Speculation around Sassaman began after some wallet activity linked to Nakamoto ceased around the time of his death. Sassaman, who passed away in 2011, has been identified as a strong candidate for being Nakamoto. However, the puzzle remains unsolved due to the lack of definitive evidence.

Moreover, several other Bitcoin whales from the early days have also made similar moves this year. Another whale, who had been inactive for over 15 years, moved $16 million worth of Bitcoin in late September. These events continue to garner attention, considering the vast amount of Bitcoin acquired during the cryptocurrency's early stages.

At the time of writing, BTC is trading at around $61,945.72, down slightly by 0.59% over the past 24 hours.
