Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, has risen to the 18th spot among the world's wealthiest people as the market value of the first and biggest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, has crossed $98,000
Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, has ascended to the 18th spot among the world's wealthiest people as the market value of the primary and leading cryptocurrency soared past $98,000 on Thursday, U.Today reports.
Earlier reports indicated that Satoshi was once listed as the nineteenth wealthiest person on Earth.
On Thursday, Bitcoin reached a new high of $98,370 as part of a four-day rally. Thanks to this surge, both holders and the cryptocurrency itself have seen substantial gains, including Satoshi Nakamoto.
According to Bitcoin historian Pete Rizzo, Satoshi's estimated holdings have now made them the 18th wealthiest person in the world, thanks to the meteoric rise in Bitcoin's price. Rizzo stated in a recent tweet, "At $98,000 Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto is now the 18th richest person in the world."
It is estimated that Satoshi still owns around 1.1 million Bitcoins. With the price surging past $98,000, Nakamoto's Bitcoin holdings are valued at nearly $107 billion. This vast fortune has seen him move up a spot from being the nineteenth wealthiest person to being the eighteenth on the list.
The True Identity of Bitcoin's Creator Is Still a MysteryAlthough Satoshi is now one of the wealthiest people in the world, their true identity remains unknown. The anonymous Bitcoin creator published a whitepaper introducing the cryptocurrency in 2008 and went on to mine the first block of Bitcoin in January 2009. After corresponding with early developers for a few years, Nakamoto eventually vanished.
On April 23, 2011, the BTC creator emailed another Bitcoin developer to say that they had "moved on to other things" and that the cryptocurrency's future was "in good hands."
It is important to note that Satoshi's wealth is only theoretical, as none of the Bitcoins linked to their addresses have ever been moved. One of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries in the cryptocurrency world is whether the Bitcoin creator will ever return to claim or spend these assets.
