BEATRIX POTTER 50p coin being sold for an eyewatering price near Stroud

A BEATRIX Potter 50p coin is being flogged for nearly £10,000 near Stroud.

The coin, which is from 2016 according to the listing, is up for sale on online sales platform eBay for £9,586.72 (or a best offer).

But the price of the coin, which is being sold in Stonehouse, is negotiable, the listing says.

The design of the coin celebrates the children’s author and illustrator and pays tribute to her life and work, according to the listing.

"The Beatrix Potter 50p coin from 2016 features a design honouring the famous English author and illustrator, known for her beloved characters such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck,” it says.

"This 50p denomination coin is part of the British decimal coinage system introduced in 1971.

"The design pays tribute to Beatrix Potter's life and work, making it a unique and collectible piece for those interested in British numismatics and the arts."

Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at The Royal Mint, said: “There are occasionally reports of coins selling for large amounts on the secondary market, some of which seem a bit farfetched, so we want to ensure collectors have the right information and pay a fair price.

“A coin is ultimately worth what the collector is willing to pay for it, but there are factors you should consider before committing to a price.

“This can include the condition of the coin, its design, its mintage figure and what it’s made of.

“If you have a coin and are unsure about its history, rarity or authenticity, we offer a range of services at The Royal Mint to help establish its likely value and help our customers build a bespoke collection.

“We also have a wide range of resources on our website to help people learn more about the coins in their pockets and coins they might inherit from family members.”
