DeepSeek continues to make headlines, and even Apple's CEO couldn't help but applaud the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) platform DeepSeek continues to dominate headlines, with even Apple’s CEO praising the platform. Meanwhile, NVIDIA has announced the launch of DeepSeek R1 on its NIM platform.
During Apple’s earnings call, DeepSeek’s performance was brought up in the context of future iPhone models and their potential for form innovation. When asked about his views on the matter, Cook said, “I think there is still a lot in the future. The innovation of the iPhone is far from over, and there is still a lot of innovation space for smartphones. I am extremely optimistic about our product line.”
Cook also highlighted DeepSeek’s AI model as an example of “innovation that drives efficiency”. He further stated, “Overall, I think innovation that drives efficiency is a good thing.”
Cook’s comments on iPhone innovation suggest the firm’s optimism towards AI, especially considering how DeepSeek’s reported ‘cost-effectiveness’ has put a spotlight on Silicon Valley’s ‘expensive AI efforts’.
On another note, NVIDIA, the ‘monopolistic computer chip maker’, faced a setback after it was revealed that DeepSeek utilized ‘highly cost-effective’ chips. However, in a surprising turn of events, NVIDIA has joined forces with the AI. The company has announced the launch of DeepSeeK R1 671b, which is now available as an NVIDIA NIM Microservice Preview on build.nvidia.com.
According to the official blog, the DeepSeeK R1 NIM Microservice can handle up to 3,872 tokens per second on a single NVIDIA HGX H200 system. Developers can now test and experiment with the API, which is set to be released soon as part of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform in downloadable NIM Microservice form.
