4 Altcoin Gems That Are Still Flying Under the Radar
Nov 16, 2024 at 11:19 am
It’s hard to think of projects in the top 75 in market cap in crypto as under the radar. Yet, some of them are.
Four projects that might be under the radar despite being in the top 75 by market cap are highlighted.
Mantra ($OM) is a permissioned blockchain that facilitates the tokenization of RWAs (real-world assets). Despite being the #1 project in this sector, it remains relatively unknown compared to Ondo, which has garnered significant attention due to its partnership with BlackRock.
However, Mantra's status as a permissioned chain allows projects and users with specific credentials to join the chain, which may not be possible on more fully decentralized chains.
This permissioned aspect is crucial for RWAs, as regulated products like mutual funds or ETFs require assurance that they can operate compliantly on the chain.
Seedworld ($SWORLD) combines gaming and user-generated content (UGC), allowing users to contribute to the development of game sections that everyone can play.
This concept aligns with the growing popularity of memes and fosters a strong community spirit within the project.
To further engage the community, Seedworld has organized giveaways, such as one offering 250,000 $SWORLD tokens, and implemented staking and farming incentives, including 100 million tokens for Season 2.
BNB ($BNB) is a top-5 coin by market value, but it may not immediately come to mind for many people.
BNB's success is closely tied to the performance of Binance, still the largest crypto exchange despite CZ's departure and brief imprisonment.
One lesser-known aspect of BNB is its role in token listing agreements on Binance. To get listed, projects are required to purchase and stake a portion of BNB.
This practice, while not illegal or artificial like FTX's manipulation of its token, provides additional value to BNB besides its use as a chain token.
Optimism ($OP) is another project that seems to be everywhere, yet it remains somewhat hidden.
Optimism Stack and Superchain are both integrated into Uniswap's Unichain, along with Base, opBNB, Soneium, and others.
However, when discussing Base, most people focus on the chain itself and Coinbase, rather than the Optimism layer beneath them.
Similarly, Cosmos hosts projects like Osmosis, dYdX, Injective, and Akash, but the value doesn't always flow back to ATOM, which has struggled despite the success of these initiatives.
While Optimism's $OP token has seen some gains, they're relatively modest compared to the project's growth and impact. Despite hosting Base, which aims to drive crypto adoption, $OP's price has remained largely unaffected by this development.
