How to Add OpBNB (Mainnet BNB) to MetaMask
Step 1: Understand What OpBNB Is
OpBNB is a wrapped BNB BEP20 token that can be used on Optimism, an Ethereum layer-2 network, while still maintaining the value of BNB. This allows for faster and cheaper transactions on Optimism while preserving the security and stability of the Binance Smart Chain.
Step 2: Set Up a MetaMask Wallet
If you don't have MetaMask, start by installing the MetaMask extension or creating a MetaMask mobile wallet. Ensure your MetaMask is connected to the correct network, namely Optimism.
Step 3: Add the OpBNB Token Address
To guide MetaMask in recognizing OpBNB, input the token contract address: 0x70deae07f12af91fd1069921ee86a27f2d4d559e. Select "Add Token" and click "Custom Token" after inputting the address. Input "OpBNB" as the token symbol and leave the decimals field as "18." Click "Add Token" once more.
Step 4: Verify OpBNB Addition
Navigate to your MetaMask wallet. Under the "Assets" tab, you should observe OpBNB listed along with your other crypto assets.
Step 5: Sending and Receiving OpBNB
You can send and receive OpBNB within your MetaMask wallet by using the recipient's Optimism address. OpBNB transactions are facilitated through the Optimism network, so confirm your transaction details to ensure successful transfer.
Step 6: Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you encounter issues viewing OpBNB in MetaMask, double-check that you have added the correct token address and selected the Optimism network within MetaMask. Additionally, refresh your browser or restart MetaMask to address any connectivity issues.
Step 7: Understand the Limitations of OpBNB
OpBNB is only usable within the Optimism network. To interact with other networks, you will need to bridge your OpBNB back to the Binance Smart Chain. This bridged BNB would be a BEP20 asset instead of an OpBNB BEP2 token.
Step 8: Bridging OpBNB to BNB
To transfer OpBNB back to the Binance Smart Chain as BEP20 BNB, utilize a cross-chain bridge such as the official Optimism Bridge. Connect your MetaMask wallet and adhere to the bridge's bridging instructions to complete the transfer.
Step 9: Security Considerations
For optimal security, store your OpBNB in a hardware wallet or on a reputable cryptocurrency exchange. Implement strong password practices and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) to safeguard your digital assets.
