Multiple applications for XRP ETFs have been filed with the SEC by Canary Capital and other potential issuers. Long believes that the new administration may expedite the approval process.
Additionally, the Ripple dollar (RLUSD) is set to be imminently integrated into leading platforms like Coinbase.
In 2023, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres ruled that XRP was not a security when sold on public exchanges. However, the SEC could still claim jurisdiction if the tokens were offered directly to institutional investors.
Coinbase is now planning to appeal to the Second Circuit to determine whether the SEC is correct in treating “sales of digital assets on secondary market” as a security.
If the court agrees with Torres's analysis, it could strengthen XRP's legal standing in the country. However, if the sale of tokens on exchanges is ultimately deemed to be a security, it could negatively impact XRP ETF prospects.
The SEC has the option to appeal Torres's ruling, and the deadline for doing so is January 15. XRP is likely to experience a significant price movement early next week, depending on the regulator's decision.
According to prediction site Polymarket, the chances of XRP ETF approval in 2025 are priced at +70%, indicating optimism within the crypto market.
On the price chart, XRP has been consolidating within a triangle pattern. A breakout could either trigger an upswing to $3.4 or drag it lower to $1.
