Stripe has reintroduced cryptocurrency payments for its U.S.-based customers, allowing businesses to accept the stablecoin USDC from customers in over 150 countries. The feature was announced on X by Jeff Weinstein, Stripe’s product lead, who took to Twitter to celebrate the occasion.

“Crypto on Stripe is officially back!” wrote Weinstein.

The feature is launching immediately for hundreds of thousands of businesses in the U.S., and Stripe plans to expand the crypto payment option to more countries in the future. Decrypt has reached out to Stripe to get further details on the international rollout timeline.

By reintroducing crypto, Stripe joins rival payment processor PayPal, which first introduced its “Checkout With Crypto” feature in 2021. Following PayPal’s model, Stripe will make crypto payments easier by automatically converting stablecoin transactions into fiat currency and settling them directly into merchants’ Stripe accounts.
