Several virtual currency trading platforms maintain Korean-language websites but they do not comply with the country's regulatory requirements to report their activities thus violating the nation's stringent financial regulations.

"Our organization is studying what kind of sanctions would apply to these cryptocurrency exchanges," an official at FIU said.
