Crypto exchange and wallet Bitget has announced the merging of its BWB and BGB tokens into a single unified asset, to be known as the BGB token. The move is designed to simplify and maximize the use of resources within the Bitget ecosystem.

The merger will see the BGB token become the primary asset for both on-chain and off-chain applications within the Bitget ecosystem. On-chain, the token will be used for gas fee payments across multiple chains and for staking in DeFi systems. Off-chain, the token will be integrated into a range of applications, including PayFi scenarios such as payments in restaurants, shopping, and tourism, which will be available starting in 2025.
