A silver nickel coin from 1910, which was originally valued at just five cents, is being auctioned for a staggering $84,000 with the price continuing to rise. The coin is part of the Liberty coin collection and is a PCGS Deep Cameo variety, with only 22 pieces in the series. It is made of 75% copper and 25% nickel and is a "proof" version - the highest grade available. An online auction site called Heritage Auctions describes this coin as the “perfect type” among deep cameo proofs. The site said it shows an "astounding depth of reflectivity” while the coin is “heavily frosted." The coin also “presents as brilliant” according to the auction house however on closer examination shows there is “just the slightest hint of color present”. The coin features Lady Liberty wearing a liberty crown in her hair. She is facing left, and has her hair tied up. She is also surrounded by stars on the left and right, with the 1910 date at the bottom. The reverse shows the “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” with the letter V in the centre of the coin. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is also inscribed on the backside of the coin. According to Heritage Auction, this coin is extremely rare with collectors far and wide pursuing the piece for top dollar. It is also extremely rare because there are no contact marks on either side.
