The Beam Foundation has announced plans to launch a new venture fund in Abu Dhabi, focused on supporting blockchain gaming projects and startups in the gaming industry.

Set to commence operations in the first half of 2025, the fund, aptly named Beam Ventures, will be capitalized at US$150 million (AU$235 million) by local investors.

The fund will primarily invest in blockchain infrastructure and GameFi, along with startups in artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality, and user-generated content. Furthermore, Beam Ventures will include an accelerator program to support general startups and projects with brand development, market entry strategies, and business growth.

On the technical front, Beam utilizes blockchain technology to provide a sovereign network for game developers, allowing them to create games where players have ownership over in-game assets. At present, approximately 20 games are available on Beam’s platform.

Abu Dhabi Embraces InnovationBeam’s Chief Strategy Officer Mark Borsten stated that the project is in the process of obtaining regulatory approval to operate in Abu Dhabi, with the licensing procedure “nearing completion”.

Speaking on X, Borsten shared that after an initial exploratory visit to Abu Dhabi, the team found the city to be “embracing innovation”. They subsequently partnered with key stakeholders to advance Beam Ventures.
