Venture capital powerhouse Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has unveiled plans to earmark $30 million for promising technology-driven gaming startups. This strategic investment will target cutting-edge sectors within the gaming realm, encompassing AI, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), and the burgeoning Web3 games landscape.

"Our focus is on the convergence of TECH x GAMES, which encompasses AI infrastructure, 3D tools, VR/AR, Web3 games, gamified consumer applications, and a wide range of other innovations," stated Andrew Chen, a seasoned general partner at a16z and head of the firm's Games One Fund.

The $30 million investment will be distributed over the next 45 days through a16z's renowned early-stage accelerator program, SPEEDRUN. Each startup accepted into the program will receive a generous grant of $750,000.

However, the competition for admission to SPEEDRUN is highly competitive, with a mere 1% of applicants being accepted in the previous cohort.

Aspiring startups have until May 19 to submit their applications. The intensive 12-week program will commence on July 29 and conclude on October 20, 2024, in the heart of Los Angeles, California.
