According to Chris Chung, founder of Solana-based swap platform Titan, the CME will begin offering futures contracts for SOL on March 17. They will be among the first regulated Solana futures to hit the U.S. market after Coinbase launched its own futures in February.

The prospect of U.S. regulators approving spot Bitcoin ETFs this year has also reportedly led some institutions to prepare to short Bitcoin futures.

Solana futures and ETFs will additionally help expand Solana’s growth story beyond memecoins, which were central to the blockchain network’s success in 2024.

Still, cryptocurrency trading volumes on Solana continue to rival those of the entire Ethereum ecosystem, including its layer-2 scaling chains, VanEck said on March 6.
