As Bitso, one of the largest crypto exchanges operating in Latin America, has pointed out, despite the current penetration in crypto powerhouse economies such as Argentina and Brazil, the market is still capable of growth.

Bitso Report Shows Stablecoins Remain Strong in Latam

The report, which corresponds to 2024's operations, showcases a 12% increase in Bitso's user base compared to 2023. Moreover, it highlights the enduring popularity of stablecoins among Latam users, who still face difficulties in accessing dollar-denominated bank accounts and physical dollars, particularly in Argentina, Bolivia, and Venezuela.

In contrast, bitcoin's share as part of the total purchases during 2024 decreased to 22%, a shift from its 38% contribution in 2023.

Bitso attributes this change to bitcoin's rising average price and the "Hold On for Dear Life" (HODL) investment strategy employed by investors, leading to less frequent but larger-sized bitcoin transactions.

However, XRP experienced a resurgence towards the end of the year, registering 9% of the purchasing volumes in 2024, mainly due to "its utility for international transfers and renewed optimism following the U.S. election results."
