Ehlanzeni District Municipality scoops the second-best run municipality award

The Ehlanzeni District Municipality has been named the second best run municipality in South Africa, out of 257 municipalities, at the ZK Mathews Awards ceremony.

The awards were handed out at the ANC’s 113th birthday celebrations at the Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Saturday January 11.

“We are very excited and humbled by this token of appreciation that has been bestowed on our district municipality. This gesture is an account of the good working relation that the troika [executive mayor, speaker and chief whip] has produced over the years. As we strive to better the lives of our people, it has been our motto to tighten the internal political and administrative systems as the pillar of our strength,” said the Ehlanzeni District Municipality’s spokesperson, Lucky Ngomane.

He added that this achievement was not just the recognition of one office, but of the efforts of the collective leadership, championed by the members of the mayoral committee and involving the entire municipal workforce.

“The strategic role of the chief whip’s office, that of ensuring the alignment of our political manifesto on our day-to-day work, has been a guiding principle that has made us sing from the same hymnbook.

“Appreciation goes to the oversight committees led by the speaker, who is also the chairperson of council, assisted by the municipal accounts committee with their sterling work, making sure that we are all in line with what the laws of the land prescribe in every activity. Without any fear of contradiction, every piece of work we are thriving in is made possible by the municipal workforce led by the municipal manager, and we wish to express our appreciation.”

Ngomane acknowledged both the provincial and regional ANC leadership.

“We wouldn’t otherwise be having this opportunity to have the kind of stability we are enjoying in our caucus. We thank the wisdom of these structures, to be able to make a perfect selection of thinkers who are obsessed with service delivery to change the lives of the people for the better.

“We hope our forebears who are no longer with us descended to Earth to witness how we are propelling what they had started. I am confident that they are looking down through the heavens and will forever be with us as we selflessly deliver services to our people,” he said.
