The Token 2049 conference dedicated to blockchain was held in Dubai. Pavel Durov and Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino spoke at the event. Pavel Durov spoke about how the TON blockchain is currently developing and what changes await the Telegram messenger. In short: total tokenization is coming to Telegram.

Apparently, Telegram will have tight integration with the TON cryptocurrency, which is already being observed. The messenger itself will turn into a super application that will provide users with access to content, earning opportunities, and purchases of goods and services.

Main innovations:

Telegram will be “the first social platform to tokenize the entire user space.” It will be possible to make NFTs from usernames in the messenger; they can be sold, bought, assigned to your account, and so on. Owners will receive 95% of the proceeds from NFT sales. Durov also revealed statistics on sales of usernames in Telegram on the Fragment platform - more than $350 million in a year and a half. Considering that 95% of sales revenue goes to sellers, the platform earned about $17 million;

Sticker tokenization. Stickers can also be turned into non-fungible tokens, as well as entire packs of stickers and emoji. “700 billion stickers are sent monthly by users to Telegram, and the number of stickers themselves is incredible,” added Durov;

In a few weeks, Telegram users will be able to buy digital goods from app developers through mini-apps. The opportunity to sell physical goods already existed, but digital goods had not previously been offered. “We are a little limited by the internal transaction mechanisms, but the withdrawal of funds will occur through TON, and it will be very simple,” the creator of the platform promised. Application developers will be able to count on 70% of sales revenue;

The mini-applications themselves will become more accessible. Users of the platform will have the opportunity to create mini-applications and bots even without the ability to write code. Durov notes that mini-applications are currently used monthly by 360 million people. With active promotion of new features, Telegram expects to double this figure.

Supporting content creators will also become easier: users will be able to support their favorite creators and content creators through the tipping mechanism;

Administrators of Telegram channels outside Russia will begin to receive the first payments in TON for advertising. As Pavel Durov recalled, channel authors now receive 50% of the revenue from advertising. Soon they will receive 70% when receiving income in TON.

“To make all this possible, we must rely on the TON blockchain,” concluded Pavel Durov. However, after his speech, TON showed a slight decline, reaching a price of $7.

As for Paolo Arduino, the head of Tether announced his intention to integrate USDT on the TON platform. According to him, this will open “new horizons for the cryptocurrency world.”
