In my opinion, EIGEN is a new type of token between ERC20 tradability tokens and Staking functional tokens. By integrating "social consensus" into the definition process of token legitimacy, it provides an anchor for possible "infinite forks" in the future, always based on the "longest chain".
Conceptually, the Bitcoin chain is experiencing various minor "forks" all the time. For example, when different miners solve the proof-of-work problem and broadcast new blocks at almost the same time, the miners may continue to work on different blocks, causing a fork of the chain. However, in the end, only the "longest chain" will be considered legitimate, and short-lived forked chains will be discarded.
