Zilliqa Struggles With Block Production Bugs, Network Halts Transactions Temporarily
Sep 30, 2024 at 05:04 pm
Critical system bugs negatively impacted the Zilliqa mainnet's block production on Sept. 27 and 29, forcing the blockchain network to halt transactions temporarily while the issue is fixed.
Critical system bugs impacted the Zilliqa mainnet's block production on Sept. 27 and 29, prompting the blockchain network to halt transactions temporarily.
On Sept. 29, several crypto investors encountered difficulties accessing their funds on ZilPay, a browser wallet for the Zilliqa blockchain. The issue arose as the network faced a system bug, whichرافیکly disabled Zilliqa from creating new blocks.
At the same time, community members raised concerns regarding the persistent Zil chain issues, considering it had recovered from a similar event two days ago. However, the earlier bug caused a drastic slowdown in block production, unlike the current bug, which stalled block production entirely.
In response to user concerns on X, Zilliqa stated:
“The persistent network issues are not related to the recent Zillisq 2.0 upgrade, which focused on speed and cross-chain compatibility.”
Zilliqa also highlighted a significant drop in transactions and block production on the Zilliqa mainnet. However, the blockchain has been restored for validators and is awaiting a “permanent fix,” according to an X post from the Zilliqa team.
The network has yet to resume normal operations at the time of writing.
The Sept. 27 bug, which slowed down block production, was rectified on the same day. At the time, Zilliqa confirmed that “the network is now fully operational.” However, the Sept. 29 bug is taking longer to resolve.

Recently, Cosmos developers fixed a “critical” security bug in its Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, which could be exploited for a reentrancy attack.
Asymmetric Research highlighted the bug, which could have put at least $126 million at risk. The bug could be exploited to mint infinite tokens on IBC-connected chains like Osmosis and other DeFi ecosystems on Cosmos.
GitHub commits show that Cosmos developer Carlos Rodríguez patched up the bug on Sept. 26.
