Cryptocurrency company Ripple is planning to integrate an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain into the XRP Ledger (XRPL) by 2025, according to a thread on X (formerly Twitter) by Ripple product manager Max Avery.
The integration will enable connections to over 50 blockchain networks, expanding the XRPL’s capabilities. Avery also highlighted upcoming XRPL upgrades that will introduce multi-purpose tokens and decentralized exchange (DEX) permissions.
These additions will make XRPL particularly suitable for complex asset tokenization, catering to the needs of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications on other blockchains.
In addition to the EVM sidechain, Ripple is planning to enhance Metaco’s custody solutions with new security features, blockchain compatibility, and advanced options for key management and regulatory compliance.
The acquisition of Metaco has enabled Ripple to provide custody solutions that meet the stringent security requirements of major banks. This move has already attracted prominent financial institutions like BBVA and HSBC.
Furthermore, Ripple USD (RLUSD) will play a crucial role in trade settlement and liquidity management. As a compliance-focused asset, it integrates seamlessly with Ripple’s existing infrastructure.
The company also plans to expand RLUSD’s blockchain compatibility beyond Ethereum and XRPL, while building a robust partner network to facilitate wider stablecoin adoption in cross-border trade settlements.
Lastly, Ripple’s Payments Direct service, which was launched in 2023, will be expanded to simplify cross-border transactions across licensed regions including the United States, Brazil, and Dubai. By 2025, Ripple aims to create an asset-agnostic payment system that bridges traditional fiat and digital currencies.
