Vitalik Buterin Changes Profile Picture to an NFT After Ethereum Foundation Responds to Community Frustrations by Dumping ETH
Jan 20, 2025 at 09:48 pm
The Ethereum Foundation, de-facto figurehead of the Ethereum ecosystem, has responded to community frustrations by proving that it does in fact use the chain… to dump ETH.
The Ethereum Foundation has finally addressed complaints about its lack of leadership and use of the chain by revealing that its number one use case is "dumping ETH."
The complaints have centered on the foundation's perceived lack of involvement in driving Ethereum's price compared to other cryptocurrencies like bitcoin (BTC), SOL, and others.
The foundation's response, however, has been met with further criticism, with some accusing the foundation of being out of touch with the community's concerns.
Initial attempts at addressing the complaints were seen as missing the mark, with the official Ethereum X account simply posting "hello world computer."
Later examples of how the foundation actively uses the chain essentially boiled down to selling ETH (and sending grants to others to sell).
"The EF uses the chain, actually our number 1 use case is dumping ETH"
Actually insane
EF could easily stake ETH and use DeFi to cover most if not all of their internal budget
This is getting extremely tough to defend https://t.co/3q4kiRvk9e
Meanwhile, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin outlined a series of goals in an X post on Saturday, including increased activity, communications, and use of the chain by the foundation.
The post also included a list of "non-goals," such as becoming a "main character" in the ecosystem, lobbying governments, or shifting to a "bronze age mindset."
Buterin also defended current Foundation leadership against “childish” and “disgusting” criticism during a campaign to reinstate former member Danny Ryan in a leading role.
In response to calls to use its ETH in more productive ways, such as staking, the foundation is reportedly exploring the option to minimize any risk of compromising neutrality over any potential future forks.
